About the Blog

MASC 491-004, Video Mentoring, is a service class at VCU I learned about through a previous professor.  The class involves commuting to UMFS in Richmond, VA, a finishing school for troubled teens.  We not only give these students the opportunity to learn more about broadcast journalism, interviewing techniques, camera operation, editing, and production, but we give these students a window into a future they never had the chance view growing up.  I appreciate the title, video Mentoring, much more than if it were to be called video Teaching, simply because an even larger aspect to this class is to open up to a unique cast of students with the goal that they will open up in return.
